Inskip Point - 18th July

Judy and I had a wonderful four days camped at Inskip Point with the company of Brian & Bev and Brian & Joan. These four are very experienced caravan campers and Judy and I learnt quite a lot of helpful hints from them, especially in relation to campfire cooking. Camping at Inskip Point requires a Permit and this is obtainable at the Ranger Station in Rainbow Beach or online.

Blogger has now included a "Location" feature to the blog editor. This means that I will be able to include a 'Google Maps' co-ordinate on each posting. You will find this "Location" link at the bottom of each posting near the comments link. Have fun looking where each posting is commenting on. I also plan to progressively add Location Links to our previous posts, over time.

Our camp is quickly set up.

This is the 'sink-hole' that developed on Inskip Point. All the water behind the fisherman was once beach.

From the other side you can see coastal trees that have been up-rooted. These beaches are normally open to 4wd vehicles but obviously no one will be driving through here.

While walking along the Fraser Island beach we encountered this very healthy looking female Dingo. All the dingoes on Fraser Island are 'full-blood' never having mated with any feral dogs or mixed breed dingoes.

Lake Leslie, Warwick - 29th April

On the way home from Tasmania, we arranged to meet up with some friends from Hervey Bay at Lake Leslie for the May long weekend holiday. We had heard that the lake was full of water, the first time for many years. As it was after the Easter break we hoped that the camp area was not going to be too crowded.

As it panned out the weather was perfect and the park had plenty of free space.

Our native Noisy Miners know where to find a feed.

On our last day at the camp we were surprised to see the "blue-green algae" bloom to such an extent. The water was completely covered with a thick skin of algae. Water craft were creating a wake in the water that was bright green instead of white.

Lake Coolmunda Caravan Park, 27th April

We were travelling through to Lake Leslie and decided to stay over at Coolmunda Dam for a night. Met some lovely people at the Caravan Park and had a good walk to the Dam. This is a great stop-over very close to the Highway.
