Huon Valley and Dover

During our stay in Geeveston, Graeme and Liz kindly provided us with an escorted tour of Hobart, the Huon Valley and Dover. We hope to have some good photos of Hobart in a week or two when we make a return visit to the city. As the blog title suggests, this blog is mainly about the Huon Valley south to Dover. We were able to see a vast array of the salmon farming infrastructure that is located all over the Huon Estuary. The beaches and the waters are in pristine condition, of course that is what is required for efficient aquaculture.
From a high vantage point it is possible to see some of the salmon processing facilities located in the Huon Estuary. The ring structures are where the salmon are nurtured, these rings are towed to and moored in various locations around the estuary. The rings are towed back to this point where the salmon are removed for processing.
The salmon rings are just visible on the water line off Police Point in this photograph. If you click on the photo for a larger version the rings will be more apparent.
A general view across the Huon Estuary from a beach near Police Point.
Jude and Noel, rugged up against the blustery conditions on the beach at Police Point.
The beach in the fishing town of Dover, there is not a lot more to see here.
From Dover snow is clearly seem on this peak. Adamsons Peak, I think, at 1226 metres.
Back north of Geeveston now, at Franklin. I caught a lone paddler on the Huon River on a beautiful, clear and mild day.
