Clem Walton Park is a delightful camp area on the Corella Dam with abundant shade and grassy banks to the waters' edge.
The entrance is on the Barkly Highway about 65 km east of Mount Isa, then it is about 5km in on a good gravel track. As the track into the park crosses the spillway flume access is denied when the dam is full with water flowwing over the spillway, The amenities here here consist of toilets, wood BBQ's and a couple of picnic shelters. Only one other van was here with us, but evidence of wider use was visible. Probably weekend campers.
The view to the left.
And the right, towards the entrance gate.
There is a resident water monitor, about 1 meter in length patrolling this arm of the reservoir. It hauls itself up onto the bank periodically to sun itself.
There is also abundant bird life, we spotted, rainbow bee eaters, cormorants, egrets, red winged parrots, willie wagtail, peewee, curlews, grey honeyeaters by the dozens and others not identified.
We also had visits from, first one brahmin.
Then another, they were unconcerned with our presence in the park and casually grazed along the access track and the grassy banks.
