On Landing in Tasmania

So sorry for the suspense, we are supposed to be relating our experiences in Tasmania. We have been 'on the run' ever since we disembarked from the "Spirit of Tasmania 11" in Devonport on the evening of Feb 28th. We had booked a van site at Latrobe CP while crossing Bass Strait, it was almost 9 PM when we were set up there. It made for a long day as we were up at 4:45 AM to make sure we reached Port Melbourne before they closed the gates to the wharf. After a great sleep we broke camp and headed south on the Lake Highway, crossing the Central Plateau region of Tasmania. As we headed southwards The Great Lake was on our left hand side and on our right hand side in the town of Miena house blocks were for sale at $45,000. We also noticed that every house had an enormous fire wood pile. We had intended to camp at Flintstone on the southern shore of Arthur's Lake, but the weather suddenly turned rather nasty. We continued on to the historic town of Bothwell, found a CP with power for our electric heater, it was 5 C and raining heavily when we checked in. Sorry no photos of Bothwell, too cold and too wet to venture out. Next morning we continued  southwards stopping at the quaint little town of Kempton for lunch then travelling on until we reached Geeveston in the Huon Valley. More on our stay there in the next report. After the initial blast of freezing conditions the weather changed to pleasant sunny days and we felt happier.

Our first road-side stop in Tasmania, Parramatta Creek. Mild but sunny morning beside a lush green park.
Lunch at Liffey Falls. They said we couldn't get a van into here, well we did. It was a sunny   8 C at lunch time, sent us scurrying for warm clothes.
We didn't walk to the 'falls' after the scowls we got from the tree huggers as we pulled in with our van, we settled for a walk along the creek instead.
So, we found this bright red fungus beside the creek, the tree huggers didn't.
Crossing the Central Plateau we encountered SNOW, not what we were expecting. The temperature was 0 C and the snow was coming in horizontally.
After staying over at Bothwell last night we came down out of the high country and encountered beautiful sights such as this one, road side somewhere near Melton-Mowbray.
In the quaint town of Kempton is the 'The Blue Place', I think it is some kind of museum now, down the road beside it is free camping, we nearly stayed!
The Doctor here has an original way to advertise his clinic.
Council Offices in Kempton.
At Kempton someone moved a whole heap of white rocks on a hill side to form an advertisement for an event on Feb 20th. The date had passed, so we missed it anyway but we are intrigued as to what it represents. We think it is a horse and stage coach?
