Cairns

Viewed from a high vantage point it becomes apparent that Cairns is a beautiful tropical city with masses of greenery dispersed through the suburbs. But, beautiful as it is, Cairns is still a city, I'd much rather be in a smaller place. We did a few of the 'touristy things', so I'll let some pictures do the talking.
Our bird book states that this is a 'Bush Thick Knee' but in FNQ they call it a 'Bush Stone Curlew'. What ever it is, it was giving me the evil eye because I was setting up camp in it's area.

Here is the whole family at the corner of our concrete pad. Those are our annex ropes in the picture.

We had several rainy periods at Cairns, this was one of them, in our 'van park.

Our camp set-up as usual.

Part of the Cairns Marina. It's still cloudy around the hills.

The Cairns Casino, not for us though.

One of the original Cairns city landmarks.

The School of Arts is another landmark.

Jude at The Crystal Cascades.

Jude at another section of The Crystal Cascades.

Noel at the top section of The Crystal Cascades. While we were walking down from this area we met some people coming up the steep path, they were from Pialba, almost neighbours of ours.

The city view from a look-out on the drive up to Copperlode Dam and Lake Morris, Cairns water supply. This picture shows how much greenery there is in the city.

The Spillway at Copperlode Dam. The dam is full with the wet season yet to begin.

A section of Lake Morris.

The Upper Barron Falls. You can just make out part of the span of the Kuranda Railway Bridge in the valley at top of picture.

The Lower Barron Falls.

The Barron River Gorge Hydro Power Station. The power station is fed with water from the Kuranda Reservoir.

Packing up at our Cairns site.
